Jewellery Care Information

Atelier Ayana works with sterling silver, 14K yellow gold and solid gold. When properly taken care of, these precious and semi-precious metals should last you years if not a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate reach out to us at any point in time for your questions or potential repairs. Sooner is better than later should any issue arise for a number of reasons.

Best Practices for Caring for your Jewellery

Cleaning

Clean your jewelry with water, soft soap and dry with a soft cloth. Refrain from using chemicals, abrasives or heat. Do not clean colored gems or pearls in ultrasonic cleaners.

Storing

Do not store them with other items that may scratch. Better to keep your silver jewelry in an airtight container, to slow down the oxidization.

Wearing

Always put your jewelry on last when getting ready, after putting on lotions and perfumes and take off first when getting undressed.

Asking for Help

If you feel your earring backs or your gemstone settings loosening, it is best to stop wearing them immediately and to contact us for repairs. You may use the pink widget at the bottom right of this page or any of our social media links to contact us.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver naturally oxidizes when exposed to humidity, perspiration, cosmetics and other chemicals. It is best to put your sterling silver jewelry on last and take it off first. Best stored in an airtight container and polished occasionally with the polishing cloth provided to remove the oxidization.

Rhodium plating prevents sterling silver from tarnishing. If you've purchased rhodium plated sterling silver jewellery, they're safe to wear in the shower and should not change color in time. The plating may last a couple of years, more or less depending on the individual use. Once it wears off, you may prefer to keep wearing your jewelry without the plating or get it replated.

14K Gold-Filled

Gold-filled jewelry contains 5% solid gold by metal weight. This outer layer is not plated but bonded to an inner copper or jeweler's brass base that is neither visible or exposed to the skin. Therefore the outer layer of solid gold is up to 100 times thicker than traditional gold-plating. Not only is it a less costly alternative to solid gold, but it is just as durable.

Since it looks and acts like solid gold, it is water-resistant. (Though I wouldn't recommend submerging it in water or going swimming with it on.) It is also considered hypo-allergenic. When properly taken care of, it will look shiny and new even with decades of wear.

Clean your gold-filled jewelry with mild soap and water, then pat dry.
